Lakai Footwear Limited is an American footwear company based in Torrance, California that creates shoes for skateboarding. Lakai was founded in 1999 by professional skateboarders and Girl Skateboards co-founders Mike Carroll and Rick Howard. Both Carroll and Howard decided they wanted to contribute to the skate shoe industry by starting their own business instead of being sponsored. By the time the Lakai idea was developed, both riders had left their positions on the DC Shoes Team Easter.
